"Brother Sport" Video

Animal Collective continually prove they are a factory of ideas. Vision and execution pervail in this childish psyche explosion of color. Feels like a coloring book laid over/then integrated with real life images.

Videos

Its very seldom we see narrative Music Videos these days.  They often are low budget visual pieces or high budget green screen, Ritter fan abusing (giving divas that windblown look) afterthoughts.  No green screen, Ritters, or divas here.  Just your typical desert hostage situation.

=====

To say that Mosshart is sexy is to undersell what she brings to any band as a front woman.  Her recklessness broods seduction and almost makes you crave chaos (as long as it is reads VV).  Jack White astounds on the drums with tight transitions within his fills and blends in nicely as the drummer.  The greatest challenge of this band (and consequently the hook or essence) is for every member (not Jack White) to make fans forget about the verging icon behind the kit and  insist they watch the Dead Weather, not "Jack White's supergroup."  VV Mosshart will have a lot to do with that.

=====

"Waiting for My Man" is the second song from Beck's Record Club: Covering Velvet Underground's Velvet Underground and Nico.  The video shows off Beck's arsenal of instruments that makes any ensemble look possible.  Maybe that's why he is choosing to cover each album in a day.  Consequently, this track (and I assume the others) will sound more like sketches rather than actual orchestrations.  Where "Sunday Morning" sounds more like Sea Change, "Waiting for My Man" sounds like the middle road between Mellow Gold and Mutations.

=====

Summertime Clothes is an obvious selection for any summer mix and now there is a video to accompany the track.  Using the same sheet improvisers as seen on Late Night with David Letterman, ice sculptures, people rocking around in transparent balls, Animal Collective has added a new found oddity to the ecstasy environment of the Electro Culture.  These abstract visuals no matter how subtle or contrived are creative notions of some sort of think tank, or collective.  A sign that some art is still a community.

=====
compliments of FADE (not to be confused with Fader):

I am not sold on the track, but, I like the literal approach of the video.  It adds a comedic effect and each lyric is creatively approached.

mp3 squeeze

MGMT doesn't reinvent the wheel with this track nor did they care to reinvent "Doomed."  If you're like me and have never heard "Doomed," then you will enjoy hearing new stuff from MGMT.

Jay released another track from the anticipated Blueprint 3 (release set for September 11).  "D.O.A." is a statement track that sings goodbye to the Auto-Tune.  Jay Z vocalizes his struggle to stay true to his style as hip hop continues to loose its edge. (straying from what Jay calls "black hoodie rap" ) The track is produced by No I.D. and Kanye West (irony).  The production is rootsy and simple setting an organic environment that leads us to believe that Jay is still the only MC "to rewrite history without a pen."

Phaseone remixes Animal Collective's glistening "Daily Routine."  Where most remixes tend to elaborate or re stylize, Phaseone cleans up and smoothes out what can be considered one the more "rough around the edges" tracks off of Merriweather Post Pavillon.

Toro y Moi is dream audio project from Chaz Bundick out of Columbia, SC.  Great use of panning effects and textures leave you suspended.  Bundick is also known for the visuals that accompany his music.

Next Animal Collective Single & Jack White in Music Politics

No the above art is not the cover of the next Jimmy Buffet Greatest Hits disc (that will surely be released again this summer for all you middle aged Orange County Coconuts).  That colorful island flavor will wrap the next Animal Collective single Summertime Clothes 12".  "Summertime Clothes" will be Animal Collective's second single off of hyclaimed (see what I did there hyped and acclaimed together...) Merriweather Post Pavilion.  With June 21st slowly but surely approaching the single will be just in time for us to all put on some "Summertime Clothes."  The 12" will release on July 7 via Domino Records and will also include three remixes of the track from Zombie, Dam-Funk, and L.D.  A video will also be made by director Danny Perez (responsible for "Who Could Win a Rabbit" video).

According to Pitchfork, Jack White's involvement in the Memphis community is expanding beyond his cash only Third Man Records.  White will be giving Nashville Mayor, Karl Deacon, advice on how to keep the Music City, musically relevant.

The Associate Press reports, Jack has become a member of Nashville's 46-member Music Business Council. The Council's goal is to further the town's reputation as a music town (what Los Angeles is to film, New York is to fashion, Nashville must be to music).  The Nashville MBC is "expected to advise on initiatives including the construction of a downtown amphitheater, the expansion of the CMA Music Festival, the creation of a new, non-country festival and the enhancement of music education." Any arts initiative is worth getting input from one of the leading creative minds in the "biz." (musically or otherwise)

Animal Collective on Letterman

Check out Animal Collective play "Summertime Clothes" on The Late Show with David Letterman.  I get improv, but, improv sheet dancers on Letterman...know your audience guys.

Ever since the White Stripes had to cut their 2007 tour short, citing Meg's anxiety, the band's future has been in question.  Some rumors swirled, whispering in fan's ears that WS were due to release an album this summer.  Then it was revealed that Jack White's summer project was not with Meg, but, with "VV" and the Dead Weather.  On top of his new super group, Jack White mentioned he was working on a White Stripes documentary.  Documentary is exciting news, but; what about Meg?  What about the White Stripes?

Today, Pitchfork cited an interview with Jack by Music Radar.  When asked about the next White Stripes disc Jack said, "It won't be too far off.  Maybe next year."  Next year might seem far away or not realistic with the success of Dead Weather yet to be decided and his slew of verging projects (see Jack White's to-do-list).  However, he keeps us hopeful by revealing that they have already recorded "a couple songs."

Jack White plays a huge role on Dex Romweber Duo's "Last Kind Word."  Dex Romweber is one of Jack's heros and he produced the 7" in his home studio to be release on his label Third Man at the end of May.  On the track Jack sings, plays guitar, and musical saw.  Jack has run out of instruments to learn and has now looked to the work bench for new challenges.   What it is, to be so talented...

Monday Rundown

Amy Winehouse has reportedly signed up to guest on Damon Albarn's new Gorillaz album.  Her vacation in St. Lucia inspired a list of reggae-style tracks that were rejected by Island Records for her nagging "in the works" new album.  Apparently, her new songs fit with the Gorillaz style.  As a fan of the Gorillaz and not so much of Winehouse's music as much as her reckless despair (missing tooth), I can only have faith in Albarn and his ability to create music that drives you mad.

Lake Inferior is a band to look out for.  The five piece plays on the University of North Carolina's student label Vinyl Records.  As posted on Aquarium Drunkard, "it is note perfect 'Spiders' that is the crowned jewel of this EP."

=====================

yeah yeah yeah's zero (animal collective remix)

Although I like the original more, the full version of the remix is better than I thought.

======================

I heard these rip roaring guitarists over Mimosas and an Easter brunch.  Rodrigo y Gabriela are currently recording in Mexico, but they have a live album, Live in Japan Rodrigo y Gabriela, (with bonus DVD footage of the concert) in stores.  "Tamacun" as played live in Japan is a must see (this version is great as well).  Never have acoustic guitars sound so large.
