This past weekend's Saturday Night Live was the strongest episode of the year. While Seth Rogan didn't blow my mind, the cast seems to be getting into a groove. The highlights of the night were Bill Hader's Gizmo from Gremlins voice in the "Girlfriend Voice" skit and "Vinny Vedecci" skit. More surprising than the quality of the episode was musical guest Phoenix. I didn't know of the band before I saw them on SNL, nor will I pretend to. The six piece (fronted by Sofia Copolla's boy) upstaged Fleet Foxes performance (Jan. 13) with "Lisztomania" and "1901" which will be on Wolfgang Amadeus Pheonix. I enjoyed "Lisztomania" more than "1901," however, both songs sparked my interest for the May 26th release. Phoenix did come off as self indulgent/overexposed (take your pick) when they played a third song for the credits. The cast needs to sign off the show.
